Writing a practical business book

This Doesn’t Make Me an Expert is a practical guide for people building a direct sales business while managing the rest of their lives. I used stories from my own business to explain the ideas and give readers steps they could try.

My role: Author, independent publisher, and promoter.

From real life to the page

I wrote the manuscript while raising two children under ten. My husband helped me make time to write at home and in Colorado Springs cafés. I drew on my experience in direct sales and used familiar analogies to explain business concepts.

My husband, mother, and a publishing friend checked facts, clarified instructions, and pointed out places that were hard to follow.

Two topics from the book

Building a Brand: How identity, voice, and trust shape the way people see a business.

Marketing Your Magical Self: Everyday examples that help explain marketing concepts.

What changed in 2024

After the pandemic, more of my business moved online. I revised the book to reflect that change, updating examples and advice on branding, social media, and building a community online.

Publishing and promotion

I published through Amazon and Barnes & Noble digital distribution, shared the book on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, and had Jordan Essentials contacts share it with their teams.

I also explored local bookstore placement and learned more about retail distribution requirements along the way.
